Installing a service kit to your Jabsco 18590 series macerator pump can be a messy and tedious job, but it’s important to do on an annual basis to keep the system running smoothly. The macerator pump is connected to your boat’s toilet and plays a crucial role in grinding down and discharging waste from the holding tank.
The service kit includes replacement parts for your pump to help it operate like new. This will help reduce the possibility of sediment buildup in the waste holding tank. Before you begin this process be sure to close the seacocks in the vessel, which will prevent water intake.
For installation you’ll need:
- 18598-1000 Macerator Service Kit
- 17288-1000 Bolt Kit
- 5/16-inch nut driver (preferred) or socket
- 7/16-inch nut driver or socket
- Large flat screwdriver
- Locking pliers (optional)
- Disposable gloves
- Dish or hand soap
When the service kit installation is complete, be sure to double check that the alignment on the macerator housing, wear plate and impeller housing all match up. This will help ensure smooth operation.
The installation process will take about 30 minutes. It is important to disinfect your entire workstation because you will be coming in contact with contaminated biological waste.
